On October 9, the energy of Husky football carried a message bigger than the game itself: building a future where cancer can no longer claim the lives of loved ones. Cancer Vaccine Institute (CVI) patients, members, and cancer survivors lined the tunnel as the Huskies took the field, bringing together two communities united by this shared mission.

Through Huskies for a Cure, UW Athletics and the Husky community turned the spirit of competition into meaningful support for cancer research. Throughout October, select home athletic events raised funds and awareness, celebrated cancer survivors, and honored those lost to the disease.

From the field to the lab, this partnership is driving progress toward a cancer-free future. The CVI is tackling cancer by developing vaccines that harness the power of the immune system to recognize, attack, and destroy cancer cells. This powerful work is fueled by scientific discovery, collaboration, and the promise of new approaches to cancer prevention and treatment.

Just as every player has a role in moving the team forward, every show of support helps maintain the momentum behind cancer research. Through its partnership with Husky Athletics, Huskies for a Cure brought the UW community together to recognize the people affected by cancer and highlight the advancements moving us forward. We are grateful to the athletes, fans, donors, and supporters who joined us in raising awareness and recognizing the progress we’ve made in the field.
