Safeway/Albertsons’ Women’s Inspiration and Inclusion Network (WIIN) invited Dr. Nora Disis, CVI Director, to a discussion moderated by Sara Osborne, Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for the Seattle division of Safeway/Albertsons and a member of the CVI Development Council. WIIN is part of Safeway/Albertsons diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and its members were interested in learning about Dr. Disis's experiences as a woman in science. Dr. Disis talked about her experiences as a young investigator, often when she was the only woman in the room, and how her early experiences shaped her philosophy on creating an inclusive and supportive work environment for women.
Safeway/Albertsons have been hosting check stand fundraisers to support cancer vaccine work at the CVI for several years. Dr. Disis was thrilled to have a chance to thank the Safeway/Albertsons employees and share how their efforts help develop new ideas and generate data used in applying for federal grants. Dr. Disis also discussed the CVI’s research on the multi-antigen STEMVAC breast cancer vaccine which is now moving into Phase II clinical trials.
We’re so grateful to have Safeway/Albertsons as a partner in our efforts to eradicate cancer! The next check stand fundraiser will be held in March of 2022.
