The Women’s University Club has selected Dr. Nora Disis, Cancer Vaccine Institute (CVI) Founder and Director, as one of three women in Seattle to receive the 2025 Brava! Award.

Each year for the past two decades, the Women’s University Club of Seattle has identified “Women of Excellence” in the state of Washington who have made an impact by their service to others and celebrates them at their annual Brava! Award Banquet. Physician-scientist Dr. Disis was recognized for spending her career advancing cancer vaccines and mentoring the next generation of scientists and clinicians. Her research has pioneered new approaches to harness the immune system to prevent and treat cancer, and her tireless advocacy has opened doors for women in science and medicine.
She joins a distinguished cohort of women, including University of Washington President Dr. Ana Mari Cauce and seasoned board member Phyllis Campbell.
During her remarks at the banquet, hosted at the Women’s University Club in downtown Seattle, Dr. Disis shared that the keys to her career success and happiness are grounded in “Four F’s”: Fortitude, Focus, Fearlessness, and Fun. These principles were a glimpse into her journey of finding meaning through science — a message that resonated with the young scholars and fellow honorees in the room.

The evening also included scholarships for graduating high school seniors and women-in-transition. Attendees, including the three Brava! honorees, was inspired by the scholarship recipients, with Dr. Cauce declaring that “the future looks bright.”
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Disis for this well-deserved honor and thank the Women’s University Club for uplifting the stories and voices of women who are making a difference in our communities.
