Hai Nguyen, PHD
PhD
Research Scientist 3
Research Staff
Hai earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington, where his doctoral research focused on nanoparticle-based photothermal cancer therapy and the immune responses triggered by resulting tumor cell death. He went on to complete postdoctoral training in vaccine immunology, studying T and B cell responses to nanoparticle-based antigen delivery platforms, before joining the Benaroya Research Institute, where he spent over a decade in translational immunology. There, he developed antigen-specific T cell assays utilizing tetramers and activation induced markers, and single-cell genomics to characterize T cell responses in autoimmune diseases, including biomarker analysis for a pivotal immunotherapy trial in type 1 diabetes. Hai joins the Cancer Vaccine Institute bringing deep expertise in antigen-specific T cell identification, and immune assay development to the IML. In his free time, you will find him riding bikes with Ampersand Bike Club and Northstar Cycling, both POC affinity groups based in Seattle.
